In the April 2019 General Conference Sunday Morning session Tad R. Callister gave a talk titled “The Atonement of Jesus Christ” in which he likened repenting to skydiving. He compares when we sin to being the person that jumps out of the plane descending to our death.
Then he goes to say, “We can be saved only because the Savior, through His Atonement, mercifully provides us with a spiritual parachute of sorts. If we have faith in Jesus Christ and repent (meaning we do our part and pull the rip cord), then the protective powers of the Savior are unleashed on our behalf and we can land spiritually unharmed.”

I thought that this is a great way to look at our sins because sometimes we feel alone and like no one is willing to help us. This is not true; sometimes we just pull the rope at a later time than we should. Christ is still there waiting to save you, but it takes an act of faith (prayer) for Him to react and help us.
Tad R. Callister also said in his talk, “One reason it is so essential to understand the Savior’s Atonement and its infinite implications is that with increased understanding comes an increased desire to forgive ourselves and others.” One of the hardest parts is forgiving yourself or someone that has wronged you, but with the Atonement of Jesus Christ both of those things are possible. I encourage you to read this talk because he gives good insight and has such a great testimony of the Atonement of the Savior.
