Decision Freeze

Decisions can be a hard thing for everyone. Sometimes there are so many choices we are overwhelmed by the idea of choosing simply one. Then, instead of moving forward, we freeze.

Let’s make a comparison. Think of yourself as a car on a large freeway. You have a destination in mind and you aren’t exactly sure how to get there. You come to a familiar exit, but you aren’t sure if it’s the right one to take. At this point, if you stop in the middle of the freeway, you are going to get into an accident. So what do you do?

Many of us come to such a point in our lives. How do we make the right choice? Well, for one, do not stop moving. When you are pleading for guidance from above, how can He help you if you aren’t even moving? Sometimes to know a choice is a wrong one, we have to make it. Sometimes we have to go off on the wrong exit to know it’s the next one or even a couple down.

If you are overwhelmed and in need of an answer, be patient, keep listening and keep studying. In order to hear the promptings of the Spirit, we must be openhearted. D&C 9:8 says:

“But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall feel that it is right.”

We can feel an answer and we can feel God guiding our lives, but we must give Him something to work with. By continually seeking and pondering and moving forward according to our best judgement, we are doing enough to receive an answer.
