Riding in Cars with Boys... and Stuffed Animals

One day my cousin texted me and asked if I'd go on a date with a guy who was in a couple of her classes at WSU. She prefaced this question with, "he's a little weird but super nice." I told her "sure" because we are a all a little weird in some way.

A week goes by and it's time for the date. The guy who was in a couple of [my] cousin's classes comes to my house and picks me up. When we get to his car I see that he has three stuffed animals sitting in his back seat. Crush from Finding Nemo, a monkey, and one more each take a spot in their own seat and each is buckled in. I think, "this is a little weird" but get into the car. We go to dinner.

As we are at dinner I'm making conversation, well attempting to, and things are going okay, but I keep thinking that something is a little off. The night goes on.

We finish dinner and he takes me mini golfing. The whole time golfing I am making jokes and having a good time and he is not having any of it and taking it so seriously (that right there was an indicator that a second date wasn't going to happen, at least on my end-- I need someone who can goof around and laugh because that's how I am).

Anyway, it's time for him to take me home.

This is when things take a turn... for the worse.

As we are in the car driving back to my house he starts talking about his stuffed animals in the back seat and how he has conversations with one of them (the other stuffed animals you can't always understand). To me that was it. I definitely knew a second date wasn't going to happen. Don't get me wrong, he was a nice guy, but I didn't know how to date a guy who had conversations with stuffed animals in his car. In the end, he didn't ask me for a second date. I guess he felt that his weird and my weird didn't really go well together too.

A couple of weeks after the date I saw my cousin and her friend (who had a class with him as well) and I told them about the date. My cousin apologized that it didn't go so well and her friend said, "I can't believe you set her up with him in the first place!!!" Oh well right? It makes for a good story.
