The Best Way to Serve My Family

With it being December and Christmas just around the corner we focus more on Christ's birth and the #lighttheworld project. This week (week 3) is #lightyourfamily, in other words we are to focus on ways we can serve our families, often times the people we love most.
As I started to ponder on things I could do to serve my family I started to think of all the traditions we have during this Christmas season.
For example, we have traditions that include driving around seeing all the many Christmas lights and decorations, serving our neighbors, doing secret Santa between the siblings and even having a competition on who can make the best snowman. Through pondering these memories I came to realize that the best way to serve my family was to simply spend time with them. With school and work (and let's face it, just trying to survive), we can easily forget the family Christmas party we promised we would be at or going to see the lights downtown as a family.
I challenge everyone to really try the rest of this week and month and to do something to come closer and serve your families.
Now, whether that be praying for a family member you know who’s struggling, writing a hand written note to a family member telling them how much they mean to you, calling your parents to just catch up, or planning a family game night, by the end of the month I know as you do something to serve your families you will not only receive the gift of being closer to your family but you will also feel the love our Savior has for you and your families.
In Doctrine and Covenants 136:11 it reads “And if ye do this with a pure heart, in all faithfulness, ye shall be blessed; you shall be blessed in your flocks, and in your herds, and in your fields, and in your houses, and in your families."

I know of the power of service and how it can bring others closer together and and truly bless your life. I know that as we serve our families and others around us that we will be able to feel our Savior's love.
