The Season of Service

In today’s busy world the Christmas season may seem like too much to handle; however, when we remember the true meaning of Christmas, we remember the true meaning of Christ.

Although Christmas may mean something different to all of us, Thomas S. Monson says this, "To catch the real meaning of the spirit of Christmas, we need only drop the last syllable and it becomes the Spirit of Christ."

What a beautiful time of year it is when we all come together, when we all try to be a little kinder, and when we remember what the season is truly about.

When trying to remember Christ this season, one might consider participating in the Light the World challenge given by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This week the challenge is to #lighttheworld by serving our families. What sincere act of service can you perform for a loved one or someone in your family this week? Whatever you choose, no matter how big or small, you will be blessed for serving others.

Thomas S. Monson also states, "Loving service anonymously given may be unknown to man — but the gift and the giver are known to God. There is no better time than now, this very Christmas season, for all of us to rededicate ourselves to the principles taught by Jesus Christ and as we seek Christ, as we find Him, as we follow Him, we shall have the Christmas spirit, not for one fleeting day each year, but as a companion always. We shall learn to forget ourselves. We shall turn our thoughts to the greater benefit of others."

This Christmas season I challenge all of you to put others' needs above your own-- to search for opportunities to serve, and to remember that the true Spirit of Christmas is Christ himself. And specifically, this week, I challenge all of you to participate in the Light the World challenge and serve someone in your family who might need a little extra CHRISTmas spirit.
