Wounded

Life is hard, this is nothing new. Some days are harder than others. A talk that has helped me in my hard times is the General Conference talk titled “Wounded” by Elder Neil L. Anderson.

One of the last sections on his talk is amazing, it’s titled Jesus Christ is Our Good Samaritan. He says, “God did not create our spirits to be independent of Him.” Christ willingly suffered for all of us and for every type of pain we encounter in this life. Anderson goes to say, “He also stands ready to save us from the sorrows and pains of our wounded souls.” He is waiting to hear from you and so willing to help us in our most vulnerable times. “The Savior is our Good Samaritan, He comes to us when others pass by, He carries us, He cared for us, He bids us, ‘Come unto me…and I shall heal [you].”

When I was at my weakest points the Savior was always there because He knew what I was going through and helped comfort me in a way only He could. He gave me the courage to keep going which is the fourth section titled Don’t Ever Give Up. His first piece of advice to us was to, “Pray with all your heart.” The only way Christ can help us in the way we need is to ask Him, He is waiting to help us, ready to jump in and be our copilot, and all we need to do is get on our knees and ask for his help. Another piece of advice he gave was to, “Look backward, remembering that you proved your worthiness in your premortal state.”

Sometimes we are so focused on what is to come that we might forget what we have previously learned.

With his counsel to look back he also gives the counsel to look forward. “Your troubles and sorrows are very real, but they will not last forever.” This for me is something sometimes I forget because I live in the moment when bad things happen. When trials last a week, months, or even years it becomes hard to stay strong and be a righteous disciple because you are tired of trying so hard. Anderson says, “You may be exhausted but don’t ever give up.” I agree with this 100% because I have learned that with big trials comes big reward when effort is shown.

In the fifth section titled “All Tears Shall Be Wiped Away.” Elder Anderson promises us that, “…if you are increasing your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, He will bring you added strength and greater hope.” The Savior has done a lot for us to make sure that we don’t have to walk this crazy, scary life alone. We need to show Him that what He did for us was worth it and the way we do that is by using it. At the end of his talk Elder Anderson says, “For you, the righteous, the Healer of our souls, in His time and His way, will heal all your wounds.”

God's timing rarely meets up with our timing, we are the ones that need to be flexible, obedient, and patient. When things are supposed to happen they will, if they don’t happen then they weren’t meant to. If you are going through a hard trial in your life I encourage you to ask your loving Heavenly Father in the name of the Savior for the added strength to endure this trial to the best of your ability; by doing this, and following the promptings of the Spirit, you will receive strength to never give up. If you didn’t hear Elder Anderson's talk, go and read it, it isn’t that long. Read it with an open mind and I promise you the Spirit will enlighten your mind with the aspects in your life that need help, and will help you along the way.
